Bruce Willis is back as John McClain! He’s kickin’ butt, causing awesome explosions, and doing it all with a yippie-ki-yay mother… well, you know!
Basic storyline:
John McClain has really reconnected with his daughter and has now found his son Jack… who’s been arrested in Moscow, Russia. He hops on a plane to go save Jack, and gets caught up in his son’s covert CIA rescue mission of a former Russian baddie who supposedly has a secret file that could blow his enemies out of the water. Fun car jacking and car chases, awesome explosions, many MANY bullets, betrayal, and family growth build this story up in hopes to mesmerize audiences everywhere!
As I walked out of the movie theater I heard mixed feelings. A lot of people apparently didn’t like this movie as well. They were saying things like, “He’s not the same John McClain. He’s old. He’s not as much of a BAMF. He’s too old. He’s not as much of a smartass. He’s just too old.”
Really… he’s too old? John McClain can’t age? Well, whatever. I didn’t mind that he’d gotten older. If that bothered some people then that’s their problem. I didn’t mind.
Not being as much of a smartass could be chalked up to a change in attitude. Yeah, John McClain wasn’t likely to change (and many believe was not supposed to change), but he made a decision in the fourth movie to try and reconnect with his family, even if that meant changing. Yeah, he didn’t change THAT much… but he’s definitely less of a smartass, and that’s enough to annoy some audience members.
He’s not as much of a BAMF…. what?! Did you NOT just see that movie?! Well… If you were to watch the movies back to back it’s probably one of the more tame movies – regarding his personality at least. But that’s been gradually growing since the third movie. (Which many regard as the worst.) There was still awesome explosions, stunts, destruction, and the norm for a Die Hard movie.
All in all, I think it was an awesome movie, even if a good portion of the audience didn’t feel the same.
