SMSU overpowers Bemidji
SMSU Volleyball (19-2) swept Bemidji State (7-15) in three sets on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. in the PE Gym. SMSU started fast and beat Bemidji State in every statistic. The team was led by Sarah Parker, Taylor Reiss, Eisha Oden, and Kaylee Burmeister with 12, 11, 9, and 8 kills respectively.
SMSU won the first set 25-18. In the second set, the Mustangs jumped out to a 16-2 lead behind two aces by Megan Larson. The Mustangs won the second set 25-6. Finally, in the third set, Bemidji State came to life but to no avail as they lost their third straight set 25-21.
13-year Head Coach Terry Culhane talked about the win.
“We hit a good percentage and when we were able to keep pressure on them, they had a tougher time of defending us,” Culhane said. “I think we had stretches where we served tough and for us it really comes down to being able to serve tough and pass serve.”
SMSU will play Minnesota Crookston (9-13) on Saturday night in the P.E. Gym before hitting the road for the next two weekends.
