SMSU volleyball defeats University of Mary, 3-0
The SMSU Mustangs defeated the University of Mary Marauders 3-0 Friday, Nov. 11. The Mustangs started out red hot in set number one scoring the first three points before the Marauders finally answered with a point of their own. The score was only tied once in the first set at 3-3 before the Mustangs cruised to a 25-17 win. Set number two was much the same as the Mustangs cruised to another 25-17 win with no ties. The Mustangs kept on rolling in set three with a 25-13 win over the University of Mary Marauders.
The Mustangs were led by Taylor Reiss, Sarah Parker, and Kaylee Burmeister with 15, 13, and 10 kills respectively. Reiss added 11 digs as the Mustangs rolled to an NSIC Conference tie for first with Concordia St. Paul. The Mustangs recently had 5 players named All-Conference including Reiss, Parker, Burmeister, Eisha Oden, and Megan Larson
Kaylee Burmeister said, “Our coach always tells us we need to focus on ‘we’ not ‘me’.”
2016 Coach of the Year Terry Culhane talked about the Mustangs goal versus Minot State.
“We have a chance to win the conference or at least share or be co-champions of the conference and that’s what we’ll shoot for tomorrow and that’ll be our goal because it’s certainly not an easy thing to do in this league,” said Coach Culhane.
The Mustangs take on Minot State Saturday, Nov, 12 at 4 p.m. in the P.E. Gym.
