Crowfather also known as Nick Northrup is a Rapper from Minneapolis who received his bachelor’s degree in English Literature-Creative Writing from SMSU. His hope for his music is “to be a source of solace and understanding, pulling back the curtain on cycles of generational trauma, inner demons, and the resilience that keeps us going.”
Opening for him was SEE MORE PERSPECTIVE, “an artist and educator committed to liberation.” He’s been writing, producing and performing for over twenty years. He describes his music on his Spotify profile: “This is Boom-Bap from the stars at the pyramids. A dance party with indigenous kings, quantum physicists, and your little cousins. These are lyrics that school, uplift, capture the imagination and reprimand wackness…”
The event took place in upper CC and was called Hopecore: An Evening of Hip Hop, Experimental Beats, and Spoken Word for Social Change with Crowfather & SEE MORE PERSPECTIVE. It was an event focused on being uplifting, promising and anti-doomsday. It was free and open to the public to encourage everyone to listen to the duo.
SEE MORE PERSPECTIVE opened up the show. His performance was unique because he made the beats as he was rapping along to them. All his songs were original and made right in front of the audience. To wrap up his performance he finished with a slam poem about the value and joy of music.
When SEE MORE PERSPECTIVE was done performing Nick “Crowfather” Northrup performed. He played songs all from his new album, Late Nights & Side Quests, an album focused on reminiscing on the good days of being younger and finding the value in those days.
The audience had a good response from the performers giving them applause and checking out their merch tables.
