No worries, the world isn’t ending. “The Four Horsewomen” is the name of the first SMSU Creative Writing senior reading. The event took place in the Whipple Gallery at noon with a full crowd. The four seniors that presented were Samantha Diel, Emily Angermeyr, Samantha Seys, and Kelsey Jennen.
Diel shared a satirical fiction story about villains being forced to marry. Angermeyr read a piece of fiction, involving a hangover induced hallucination, where the character met three different versions of herself. Seys performed a flash fiction where the character body slammed a deer in accident, a poem comparing a China doll to a funeral, as well as a fiction story with a mother and a troublesome toddler. Jennen shared part of a fiction story that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, where the warrior women relate to the Amazon women of myth.
Each senior of the Creative Writing major is required to give a senior reading at the end of fall semester. Every student’s reading lasts fifteen minutes.
The second reading of the SMSU Creative Writing seniors will be November 20, at noon, in the Whipple Gallery. The last reading will be in the Conference Center’s Upper Ballroom at noon on December 4, during the Undergraduate Research Conference.
