Feb. 18 was the first reading held by Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU)’s English Club. Students read original work, fiction, non-fiction, or poetry, to an audience. The event was open to the school and brought in a handful of SMSU’s professors. Students who read were Kevin Heimermann, Jon Heimer, and Samantha Lemmerman.
Readings are a good time for students in the English major to present their work to the school, as well as practice for the mandatory senior reading. Another factor in the reading is getting feedback from the audience and professors, who students might not have during the semester. Dr. Judy Wilson, SMSU English Professor, said, “I generally love listening to our creative writing students present their work, and this was no exception. I found the stories and poems engaging, thought provoking, and most importantly brave. Hats off to Sam, Kevin, and Jon.
