Sarah Brown, Coordinator of Academic Support and New Student Engagement, organized this year’s Success Night. On September 11, 2025, Success Night is for new students to get together, have fun and learn helpful resources that will guide them in their future work. As well as encouraging students to come back next year.
Success Night started with a short introduction speech by Dr. Ross Wastveat, SMSU Provost. A welcome speech highlighting different resources that we can visit with the strong belief that us students will succeed.
We had a sheet of paper to collect stickers and enter a raffle to get prizes and tuition statements. On this sheet there were ten slots we must fill out with the stickers we collect by going around the help desks in the BA lobby learning information about what they do and how they can help.
She then invited Jacob Fahi, the keynote speaker and previous alumni at SMSU. He talked to us about his experience at SMSU as a student.
He told us that by the time we graduate there may be many new jobs out there that weren’t there before.
Fahi went on to say key things we should take note of: Relationships, Communication, Community, Work Ethic and Learning. He emphasized on these points as they help with networking that can lead to you securing a job or to better prepare you for one. These skills will help us get into the job we did or did not plan for.
After that we then went back to do the Raffle draw to see who won the prizes and tuition statements. The raffle winners were Kaitlin Gleis, Evelyn Bonnifield, Nord Hoffman and Savannah Boedigheimer.
