In the upcoming student election Dora Facundo runs unopposed for vice president. She is a third year Justice Administration and Psychology Major from Madelia, MN.
She came to SMSU because of the caring and intimate nature of the campus. Facundo says, “I always wanted to go to a college that was small enough where I was more than just a number on a roster in the classroom. I felt that SMSU matched my expectations.”
Her accomplishments include being the President of the LatinX club for two years, and an officer of First-Gen club, Social and Criminal Justice club. This has taught her many skills. Facundo says, “through these positions, I have solidified my organization, communication, and advocacy skills.”
Facundo’s main goal while in office is to make Student Senate more “student-focused” by making it: “an area that students of all backgrounds feel comfortable being involved in and using their voices.” Facundo says, “I want students to feel like they belong, regardless of their qualifications or other experiences.”
To that end, Facundo plans to encourage Student Association to become more involved with SMSU students and faculty. “I feel that this also will allow us to be aware of how we are all connected and can continue to support each other,” she said.
One of her biggest motivators for running is being able to be a part of positive change. She promises to do the best she can and to always advocate for students. Facundo thinks that student senate should reflect the diversity of the student body.
“I think the students at SMSU should vote for me because I care.” Facundo says, “I have the passion for making changes that students want to see. As a student myself, I know what it is like to want to see something happen, and I want to make sure anyone who feels that way knows they can be open and honest with me. I will always try my absolute best”
The election runs from April 14 to 18. Vote here.
