Since all of us poor college students could use some extra cash, I thought it would be fitting to do a Life Hacks section all about saving money, courtesy of 1000lifehacks.com.
1. When filling your car with gas, hold the trigger halfway. You’ll get more gas and less air in the tank.
2. Ordering two four-piece McNuggets at McDonalds costs less than ordering one six-piece!
3. Putting batteries in the refrigerator for a day before using them will double their lifespan.
4. When buying on Craigslist, use a fake email to lowball the seller by a lot, then on your regular email, offer a reasonable (and lower!) price.
5. At a party? Tell people you’re not drinking. Everyone will suddenly offer you a free drink!
6. Each 5 mph you drive over 60 mph is like paying an additional 10 cents a gallon for gas.
7. Call any pizza place and ask if they have any orders that people didn’t pick up. They will let you have them at a discount price.
8. When buying something online, only read the reviews that gave it 3 stars—they’re usually the most honest about pros and cons.
9. Write emails to big companies and say you usually buy their product, but recently it was unsatisfactory. Free stuff will roll in!
10. Never go to the grocery store hungry. You’ll end up buying many things you don’t actually need.
11. When shopping, the cheapest items will be on the top and bottom shelves, not eye-level.
12. When ordering coffee, ask for a medium in a large cup. They’ll likely accidentally over-fill it and you’ll get a cheap large coffee.
13. If you can break a Nalgene water bottle, not only will they replace it, but you will also get a free t-shirt that says “I Broke a Nalgene.”
14. You can extend the length of a free trial by pushing back the date on your computer.
15. Use Skype to make free calls overseas.
