SMSU steamrolled Moorhead State in a 3-0 Homecoming win in the PE Gym. The set scores were 25-13, 25-16, and 25-11. SMSU only trailed once early in the second set.
Sophomore Taylor Reiss had 13 kills, one ace, and two blocks to lead the Mustangs. Sophomore Kaylee Burmeister added 11 kills and one block, while Junior Eisha Oden had eight kills and three blocks.
Oden credited fundamentals as the key to the win.
“As a team we felt pretty good. The key things were as always, serve tough and pass the ball, and work hard defensively” said Oden.
Head Coach Terry Culhane mentioned that he felt they were more efficient. There were seven hitting errors in game one and Culhane gave credit to Moorhead on their effective blocking. As the game went on, Culhane said the team grew more efficient with swings.
“We were able to make less errors. It sounds simple, but obviously every error’s a point.” Culhane said, “It’s a fine line. You need to stay aggressive and do things, but at the same time you don’t want to lose aggressiveness, but you want to play smart enough to hit smart shots.”
