SMSU volleyball subdues Golden Eagles
SMSU defeated Minnesota Crookston three sets to zero on Oct. 22 at 3:00 pm in the P.E. Gym. The Mustangs won in straight sets Saturday afternoon. Kaylee Burmeister and Taylor Reiss had 10 kills apiece in the match with Burmeister adding 2 blocks. Sarah Parker added 10 kills and 4 blocks while Eisha Oden added eight kills and three blocks.
The first set had three ties before the Mustangs finally took the lead for good. Burmeister and Reiss recorded kills in set one to lead the Mustangs to a 25-21 victory. Set two the Mustangs went up 3-0 and never looked back as they rolled over Minnesota Crookston 24-18. Set three had 13 ties before the Mustangs finally won 26-25.
“We just wanted to go out there, we needed to focus on defense and just be the team that we can be,”said Burmeister.
It all came down to numbers according to Head Coach Terry Culhane.
”We ended up making enough plays to get done. I don’t think we played very well defensively at all blocking wise or back row play,” said Culhane. “I think that’s just something we have to do to be effective. I think we did enough offensively to get done.
