Since the end of the semester is coming and presentations will abound, here are some handy tips to keep your cool.
1. If you’re nervous, acknowledge it. Break the ice while you’re up there. Chances are you’re not the only nervous one.
2. Don’t lock your knees. This is something I learned while I was in choir, locking your knees is a big no because of the blood flow and the heightened state of nerves. Bend them just a little—and hey, that might help strengthen those ab muscles too.
3. Bring up water. Even if you don’t use it, it’ll be there, which is far better than cottonmouth and trying to ace a presentation. Also, taking a drink of water can give you cause for a break.
4. Go over your notes before class. This is especially important if you’re one of the first presenters. While the professor is talking or taking roll, go over the notes you have for your subject to refresh yourself.
5. Pronunciation is key. Make sure you use words that you know and know how to use. No one likes watching a presentation where someone totally mispronounces a word, it just ruins the rest of the presentation.
