Whether you know it or not, The Wii U has been out for since the holiday season of 2012. I question if some of the reader know this because Nintendo in all forms did a horrible job marketing this console, and even today many are confused.
The name itself brings to mind that it’s an add-on to the Nintendo Wii, even though it’s an entirely new system. This sloppy marketing made people weary of the new device and its sales suffered for it.
To try and coup with the lack of sales, Nintendo decided on a price drop, similar to what they did with the Nintendo 3DS less than six months after its release.
On September 20, 2013, Nintendo dropped the price of the Deluxe 32 Gigabyte Model from $349.99 to $299.99, while also completely stopping production of the Basic 8 Gigabyte Model which was $299.99. To celebrate the price drop, Nintendo also simultaneously released the Wind Waker HD Bundle, which came with a digital copy of the Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD remake, a digital copy of the Hyrule Historia [a history book on the Legend of Zelda,] a special edition Wii U Gamepad, and the Wii U console.
With me being a huge Legend of Zelda fan, and not having a Wii U yet, I knew I had to get it. And I wasn’t disappointed.
Even though the Wii U was horribly marketed, it doesn’t make it a bad system.
I thought the bulky Wii U Gamepad would be awkward and clunky to use, but it fits nicely in my hands and is light weight.
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD looks beautiful in HD and plays just as well as its Gamecube counterpart, probably even better.
As of now I really enjoy the system, but I can’t give a full assumption until I get my hands on a few more games, but for now I give the Wii U Wind Waker HD Bundle 4.5 rupees out of 5.
