Lucy Darling is the drag queen-inspired persona of Carisa Hendrix. Hendrix is from Canada and started performing magic shows with a mix of comedy. She has been named a 15-time award-winning entertainer, featured in the Guinness Book of World Records, and Ripley’s Believe It or Not.
Hendrix became a global sensation during COVID when she started posting videos of her acts on social
media and went viral on TikTok for some of her bits. On Hendrix’s page, she has 1.4 million followers and shares behind-the-scenes content. On Darling’s page, she has 56.2k followers, where she posts under the drag persona.
Hendrix started the show by paying homage to her fans with a video thanking us for letting her go on these tours and for enjoying the show.
Minneapolis was the first stop on her tour, where she did a back-to-back show, and if it weren’t for her telling us, I never would have noticed, as her energy was high throughout.
The night was filled with laughs and callbacks to known bits she performs at each show, along with new ones she adds at each stop. One of her jokes/magic tricks was a running story she kept playing with a couple of audience members throughout the show, causing many moments of spotlighted joy.
At one point, Hendrix did her signature “oh no” bit where she drops an object and makes a random man pick it up for her, but the man surprised all of us when, the third time he dropped, he decided to up the scales by crawling back to her.
The most impressive trick of the night was the three-cocktails trick, where she made three mixed drinks at random based on the page the audience member picked, without anything other than the cocktail shaker on the table.
After the show ended, I remained at the venue because I had VIP meet-and-greet tickets and was able to
have a quick photo op and a 15-minute conversation. We talked a bit about the show and also connected over some mutuals in the industry. As there is a magician who shares my first name, and I have a history of working in theater, we have some connections through there as well.
Overall, it was a great night, and if she ever decides to come back to MN, I would recommend her to anyone, as both her humor and magic made it wonderful.
Regarding the venue, I want to point out that it was held at the Pantages Theater in Minneapolis. This theater does have an elevator, but it is not ADA-compliant, as even if you take it, you still have to climb stairs to reach the seats. The only ADA option without stairs is on the main floor. Other than that, they were very accommodating. A staff member guided me to my seat and helped me in the one area without a rail.
