At the end of this July the AOS (Access, Opportunity and Success) and the Diversity and Inclusion offices moved into East Commons. Jefferson Lee IV, director of both departments, has been looking for a more central location to house the two offices since the summer of 2012.
Before the move, the AOS office was located in the IL building and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion in the Student Center.
According to Lee, both offices generally served the same students, so the move was one of convenience for them.
“It has been a joint effort to get this change of venue for the office,” Lee said, “Last summer, Joe Gusman and I were talking about what would be a better place for the office. We began our campaign for [East Commons and] it was Dr. Gores who gave us this location. It was because of the alumni office that were able to get a grant for the furnishing.”
Mr. Hightower, who is a MnScU trustee, will be on campus Sept. 26 to give the opening address for the official opening of the new offices, where he is expected to give his support for the AOS and Diversity and Inclusion departments.
Lee is very excited for the prospects of the move. He says that most of the students that the two offices serve are happy for the change. The students also received a computer lab and study room.
